Participating Professors

Associate Professor LEE Seung Cheol
Dr. Lee’s research interests are focused on the question of how neoliberal financialization has reshaped people’s social, affective, ethical, and political lives. His recent research has examined the rise of the social economy and social entrepreneurship in South Korea, in order to understand the new features of sociality and ethicality found in these moral economic projects. Dr. Lee’s long-term research goal is to develop an anthropological understanding of neoliberal financialization and thereby explore the possibility of a new political subjectivization. He is currently working on two research projects. One investigates the formation of ‘mass investment culture’ in South Korea in the context of its post-developmental and post-work transition. The second project traces the relation between financialization and the populist politics in South Korea through various mass investors’ movements.
